Birger Kullmann, born 1956, graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in 1981. Sailing has been a favourite pastime since childhood and eventually evolved into a professional career after university. Racing experience include anything from the 21´ Yngling keelboat class to 83´ Maxi-rater offshore racers. Kullmann has participated in numerous Scandinavian racing events, ten IOR World Championships and two Admiral Cup´s, - a number of them as helmsman or skipper. Extensive cruising experience can also be accounted for. Kullmann has been involved in the making of IOR and IMS rating and safety rules, and with Friedrich Judel (of Judel/Vrolijk) initiated the world championship technical inspection guideline. He was International Technical Committee member at twelve Offshore World Championships´s, Admirals Cup´s a.o. and Chief Measurer at three ORC Ton Cups. Kullmann has been a member of Det Norske Veritas Boat Committee working on the Nordic Boat Standard scantling & safety rules. Kullmann has been part of the editorial staff of Norways major yachting magazine Seilas", contributing with technical and feature stories. He has also contributed with reports from world championship events for Royal Offshore Racing Club magazine Seahorse a.o. Kullmann has given lectures on naval architecture, yacht racing and yacht measurement both nationally and internationally including the Norwegian Trade Show, the Royal Norwegian Yachtclub, the Offshore Racing Council and the National College of Art and Design. |
